DB-Synthetic Equity & Index Strategy-US ETF Market Monthly Review-ETPs added $37.2bn in AUM breaking the $2.1 trillion mark

May 5, 2015--Data in this report is as of Thursday, April 30th
US ETP assets rose by $37.3bn
ETP assets in the US rose by $37.3bn to $2.107 trillion (YTD +6.5%) last month Global ETP industry assets closed at $2.856 trillion (YTD +8.2%).
ETF AUM was 14.9% of the Mutual Fund AUM at the end of March vs.14.6% at the end of 2014, and 6.5% at the end of 2007.

Flows Review: US ETPs capture $13.8bn during April
US ETPs experienced inflows of $13.4bn during April (+0.6% of last month's AUM).
Commodity ETPs experienced outflows during April of $0.6bn; meanwhile, Equity and Fixed Income ETPs had inflows of $9.1bn and $4.5bn, respectively.

New Launch Calendar: Seventeen new products reached the market during April; three issuers made its debut

There were seventeen new ETFs listed during the previous month; fourteen of these were listed in the NYSE Arca and three were listed in the NASDAQ. The new products offer exposure to Global, Global ex-US, Global ex-US Small-cap, US Small-cap, US, Currency Hedged Real Estate sector, Currency Hedged Infrastructure theme, Currency Hedged Japan, Growth Small-cap companies, China A-shares, Pakistan, UK Large-cap, US stocks with low volatility and low interest rate risk, Global Airline industry, Activist Investors strategy, and two actively managed strategies.

Turnover Review: Floor activity decreased by 15.8% during April
ETP turnover totaled $1.348 trillion last month, 15.8% (-$252.2bn) lower than the previous month figure of $1.600 trillion, and 3.4% below last year's monthly average of $1.395 trillion. Equity, Fixed Income, and Commodity ETPs turnover decreased by $218.4bn (-15.3%), $22.8bn (-20.0%), and $5.9bn (-14.1%) during April, respectively.

ETP trading made up 24.5% of all US cash equity trading in April, down from last year's peak of 30.0% in October, and still below its 3-year monthly average of 26.2%.

iShares Unveils New Family of Smart Beta ETFs

May 5, 2015--The menu of smart beta ETFs continues to expand with the roll out of five new products from BlackRock, dubbed the iShares FactorSelect ETFs.

The ETFs are based on MSCI indices and provide exposure to U.S. large- and small-cap stocks, international large-and small caps and global stocks.

Bank of Canada cautions on ETFs, outlines liquidity proposals

May 5, 2015--Some exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and mutual funds might face liquidity problems if a large number of investors were to run for the exits at the same time, Bank of Canada Senior Deputy Governor Carolyn Wilkins warned on Tuesday.

She raised the red flag cautiously in a speech in which she outlined central bank proposals to insure markets remain sufficiently liquid under strained conditions....

BNY Mellon Introduces Industry's First One-Stop Automated Process to Facilitate Creation and Redemption of ETFs

Authorized Participants Benefit from New Process
May 5, 2015--BNY Mellon, a global leader in investment management and investment services, has introduced the industry's first one-stop process for authorized participants (APs) to automate the creation and redemption of exchange traded funds (ETF).

The enhancements allow an AP to utilize the BNY Mellon ETF Center to propose and negotiate ETF baskets of underlying assets with a fund sponsor during the creation and redemption process. This is a significant improvement over the common industry practice, which required APs to utilize more than one venue to propose, negotiate and settle ETF baskets, BNY Mellon said.

Markets, regulators still feel effects of "flash crash"

May 4, 2015--Since the 2010 "flash crash," regulators have extended trading pauses following steep drops in markets and taken steps to ensure brokers' quotes remain legitimate in the markets they make.

However, experts who have scrutinized the "flash crash" say another such event could happen now.

May 4, 2015--Advisers, take note. You may not realize how-or where-investors are searching for financial advice.

Using Google Trends, a tool that tracks search terms around the world, InvestmentNews found that some terms are stronger than others on a state-by-state basis. For example, of all the states, people in New Jersey searched the most for "financial advisor" while its neighbors in New York searched the most for "broker."
