Overseas buying of U.K. debt sets record

May 4, 2015--Foreign purchases of U.K. government debt surged to a £28.2 billion in March, the largest inbound flow of funds since records were first kept in 1982

Appetite for this debt comes despite a warning from the Bank of England that the current-account deficit might "trigger a deterioration in market sentiment towards the United Kingdom" if the economy goes into a slump.

ECB publishes its Euro Money Market Study 2014

April 30, 2015--Euro money markets are in a healing phase following the deterioration identified in the 2012 study. Total turnover across money market segments has been rising since 2012.

This improvement in market functioning over the past two years is underpinned by the stabilisation in risk budgets that market participants could exploit for trading activity in 2013, and by further improvement in the course of 2014.

Monetary developments in the euro area

April 29, 2015--The annual growth rate of the broad monetary aggregate M3 increased to 4.6% in March 2015, from 4.0% in February 2015.1

The three-month average of the annual growth rates of M3 in the period from January 2015 to March 2015 increased to 4.1%, from 3.8% in the period from December 2014 to February 2015.

Coinbase opens bitcoin exchange in UK

April 28, 2015--Bitcoin payment processor Coinbase opened an exchange and online wallet service in the UK on Tuesday, allowing people to convert sterling into bitcoin.

Expanding to the UK will make it easier to access bitcoin in one of the financial capitals of the world, San Francisco-based Coinbase said in a blog on its website.

ESMA publishes updated EMIR Q&A-focus on reporting

April 27, 2015--The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has today issued the 13th update of its Q&A document on the implementation of the European Markets Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR).

This update relates to the second level of the EMIR validation specifications to be commonly applied by the Trade Repositories (TR) to ensure that reporting is performed according to the EMIR regime.

New market maker for ETPs-SIX Swiss Exchange

With Commerzbank, SIX Swiss Exchange welcomes another market maker in its ETP segment.
April 24, 2015--Today, Commerzbank starts as a market maker in the ETP segment of SIX Swiss Exchange and quotes prices for the Source Physical Gold P-ETC.

This product is listed since November 2010 and aims at replicating the performance of the London Gold Market Fixing PM Fix Price/USD.

ETPs are collateralized, non-interest-paying bearer debt securities (debentures), which are issued as securities and may be sold and redeemed on a continuous basis. Currently the ETP segment comprises 42 products of 3 issuers and 5 market makers. Further information about ETPs is available on our website.

LSE marks 15 years of ETFs with £186bn turnover last year

April 23, 2015--London Stock Exchange Group has marked the 15th anniversary of the first London exchange traded fund listing, the iShares FTSE 100 ETF which was listed on the LSE in April 2000.

As of today, there are 791 ETFs trading on the London market linked to indices that cover a large range of markets, such as the FTSE China A-50 and asset classes including fixed income and commodities. Over $20bn is now linked to FTSE China indices alone, says LSEG.
