ESAs weigh benefits and risks of Big Data
March 15, 2018--The Joint Committee of the European Supervisory Authorities (ESAs) published today its final report on Big Data analysing its impact on consumers and financial firms.
Overall, the ESAs have found that while the development of Big Data poses some potential risks to financial services consumers, the benefits of this innovation currently outweigh these. Many of the risks identified by the ESAs are mitigated by existing legislation.

EBA publishes its Roadmap on FinTech
March 15, 2018--The European Banking Authority (EBA) published today a FinTech Roadmap setting out its priorities for 2018/2019. The Roadmap also sets out the establishment of a FinTech Knowledge Hub to enhance knowledge sharing and foster technological neutrality in regulatory and supervisory approaches.
Taking account of the feedback to the EBA's 2017 Discussion Paper on FinTech, and the new mandates for the EBA set out in the European Commission's FinTech Action Plan, the EBA's FinTech Roadmap describes its priorities for 2018/2019 and provides an indicative timeline for the completion of these tasks.

March 15, 2018--Two new ComStage asset strategy ETFs launched on Xetra
ETFs provide access to a broadly diversified ETF portfolio
Two new active exchange traded funds issued by ComStage have been tradable on Xetra and Börse Frankfurt since Wednesday.
The two new ComStage Vermögensstrategie (asset strategy) ETFs enable investors to participate in a broadly diversified ETF portfolio. The ETFs acquired are primarily those that track the performance of international equity, bond, money market and/or commodity indices, or interest rates.
The ComStage Vermögensstrategie Defensiv UCITS ETF allocation is made up of 40 percent equity, 50 percent bond and 10 percent commodity investments. The ComStage Vermögensstrategie Offensiv UCITS ETF, in contrast, invests in 80 percent equities, 10 percent bonds and 10 percent commodities.

UK-based Coinfloor to launch physically settled bitcoin futures
March 14, 2018-- Cryptocurrency exchange operator Coinfloor said on Wednesday it will launch a futures exchange for digital assets that will include the first physically delivered bitcoin futures contracts next month.
The new London-based trading platform, known as CoinfloorEX, is aimed at hedge funds, proprietary trading firms and sophisticated retail investors, as well as cryptocurrency miners, Mark Lamb, co-founder of Coinfloor, said in an interview.

UBS AM lists two new ETF commodity share classes on the London Stock Exchange
March 14, 2018--UBS Asset Management announces two new currency hedged commodity share classes on the LSE.
The UBS ETFs (IE) Bloomberg Commodity CMCI hedged GBP ETF replicates the performance of the UBS Bloomberg Commodity CMCI (Constant Maturity Commodity Index) GBP hedged Total Return Index.
The index is designed to provide enhanced beta exposure to a broad basket of commodities, by applying the CMCI's daily rolling mechanism and tenor-diversification principle to its underlying components.
The UBS Bloomberg Commodity CMCI hedged to GBP applies the advanced CMCI futures rolling methodology, while using the standard commodity weights of the Bloomberg Commodity ('BCOM') Index.

Banks told to speed up work on 'risk free' Euribor alternative
March 13, 2018--Starting in 2020, banks won't be allowed to use two interest rate benchmarks that have been discredited by allegations of fraud, a top European Union regulator said, putting pressure on the financial sector to find alternatives fast.
The Euro Interbank Offered Rate (Euribor) and Euro Overnight Index Average (Eonia) are used to calibrate monetary policy, price 180 trillion euros ($222.61 trillion) worth of derivatives and, in some countries, to determine interest rates on mortgages.
