Fed Officials Brace for (Familiar) New Normal
Unconventional tools used after financial crisis may become increasingly common
August 21, 2016--For much of the post-financial-crisis era, U.S. Federal Reserve officials have held to a belief that they could get back to their old way of doing things.
Growth would resume at a modest pace, annual inflation would climb to 2% and interest rates would gradually rise from near zero to a normal level near 4% or higher.

U.S. Federal Reserve's notes from their July meeting offered no surprises, as the VIX closed at 12.19.
The VIX futures curve is unusually steep, indicating traders do not anticipate VIX to remain as low in the near future. At yesterday's close, the front future price represented a 21% increase in VIX from its current level -a spread within the highest
1% of all such observations historically.
