Taxable-bond funds continued their undisputed rule as the category group with the highest flows in September, receiving $10.4 billion on the active side and $12.9 billion on the passive
side.
The Federal Reserve announced at its Sep. 21 meeting that it would not be raising rates just yet, postponing the decision until December. If and when rates rise, we may see some disturbances in the current bond-chasing trend, but until then, the influx of investor money into
bond funds is showing no sign of slowing down.

Canada's newest exclusively-smart beta ETF provider, Sphere Investments, has selected State Street (NYSE: STT) as its custodian of record for its new series of funds. In April 2016, Sphere Investments and State Street launched four new Sustainable Yield ETF products on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

October 17, 2016--Assets in actively managed ETFs continued their steady growth in September, increasing by $345 million, or 1.25%, to $27.371 billion.
The actively managed ETF space realized a net gain of eight new funds last month, which brings the overall total to 156.

ProShares Leveraged and Inverse Treasury ETFs Change Benchmark
October 13, 2016--ProShares, a premier provider of ETFs, announced today that eight of its Treasury ETFs will be changing their benchmarks from Bloomberg Barclays indexes to ICE indexes, effective after the market closes on or about Oct. 14, 2016.

SEC Adopts Rules to Modernize Information Reported by Funds, Require Liquidity Risk Management Programs, and Permit Swing Pricing
October 13, 2016--The Securities and Exchange Commission today voted to adopt changes to modernize and enhance the reporting and disclosure of information by registered investment companies and to enhance liquidity risk management by open-end funds, including mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
The new rules will enhance the quality of information available to investors and will allow the Commission to more effectively collect and use data reported by funds. The new rules also will promote effective liquidity risk management across the open-end fund industry and will enhance disclosure regarding fund liquidity and redemption practices.
