How South Africa Can Unlock its Economic Potential

February 17, 2026--South Africa's new inflation target is one of several actions helping to bolster macroeconomic stability; continued reforms, both macroeconomic and structural, can help maintain momentum and address longstanding vulnerabilities.

South Africa demonstrated remarkable economic resilience in the face of global turbulence in 2025, successfully maintaining macroeconomic stability and keeping inflation under control. Even so, the country still faces relatively slow economic growth, high public debt, and significant unemployment, especially among young people. There are also concerns about the reliability of key infrastructure-electricity, freight rail, ports, and water.

Retail revolution on Nairobi Exchange

February 13, 2026--The number of equity trades every day has been doubling or tripling on the Nairobi Securities Exchange after Safaricom launched its retail-focused Ziidi trading platform. The platform opens buying and selling shares to nearly 38 million active subscribers of Safaricom's M-PESA mobile money platform and strips layers of form-filling and investment minimums.

BRVM's eight countries move to T+2 settlement on 4 Dec

December 2, 2025-The West African regional securities market is switching to T+2 settlement (second day after trading) with effect from the trading session this Thursday, 4 December. The move has been prepared by the Dépositaire Central / Banque de Règlement (DC/BR, central depository and settlement bank) and will take effect from Friday's trading on the Bourse Régionale des Valeurs Mobilières (BRVM).
